Welcome to the Summer Term, the year seems to be flying by!
This term our topics are ‘Minibeasts’ and ‘Under the Sea’.
In the first half of term the children will be looking at and learning about various minibeasts. We have caterpillars for the children to observe, talk about and ask questions. Hopefully we will be able to release these, once they have become butterflies, just before half term. The role play will be a den building area, a garden and finally a garden centre. We will be ending the topic with a minibeast picnic where the children are invited to come in to school dressed as a bug or minibeast.
In the second half of term we will be learning about the sea; the creatures that live in the sea, the seaside and holidays. We will also look at pollution and how we can all help to look after the world we live in. We are hoping to take the children to the Aquarium at the end of term. We will let you know more details nearer the time.
We will also be having ‘child initiated weeks’ where the children get to choose the topic we are basing our work on that week. These weeks are a great opportunity to encouraging writing from the children who wouldn’t usually choose to write, to cover topics that we wouldn’t usually think to cover and to have a lot of fun following the children’s’ interests. We will let you know in our weekly letters when these weeks are and the topics the children have chosen.
If you would like to speak to any member of the foundation team please do not hesitate to catch us in the morning, after school or by writing in your child’s home school diary.
