The Governing Body of Bickleigh Down CE (Aided) Primary comprises 11 Governors.  The primary committees are the Teaching and Learning Committee and the Resources Committee.  Governors are allocated to these committees using the skills audit as a tool to identify skills they will bring to the committee.  This enables the Governors to be tightly focused and no larger than they need to be to have all the necessary skills to carry out their functions effectively, with everyone actively contributing relevant skills and experience.  The Full Governing Body meets four times a year; the Resources and Teaching and Learning Committees each meet termly.  A Pay Committee, made up of Governors from the Resources Committee, also meet when necessary but at least annually.  Five Governors also sit on the Ethos Group which meets at least termly.   

The three core functions of the Governing Body are: 

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;  
• Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and  
• Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
