Welcome to Year Four.
We hope you all had a lovely Summer break and are refreshed to begin the new school year. We are sure it won`t take too long for the children to get back into their school routines.
Our thematic title this term is “Ancient Greeks” for the first half of the term and then "The Stone Age" after the October break. We will be looking into how the ancient Greeks lived, their myths and legends and how their lives impact upon us today. For the Stone Age topic we will investigate what Britain was like during this era and how their beliefs led their daily lives. The full list of topics can be found on our thematic web. These topics continue to reflect the National Curriculum expectations and should prove very exciting for the children.
Our P.E. days will be Tuesday and Friday. Outdoor Games will be on a Tuesday and Indoor PE will be on a Friday. Please ensure that all children have their PE kits in school each day of the week. This should now be winter PE kit for outdoor PE as well as shorts and T-shirt for indoor. Please could you check that your child’s PE kit is named to avoid it getting lost.
We will be setting two pieces of homework each week, one will be Maths based and the other will be English based. On occasion we may change these pieces to reflect other Foundation topics that we have been learning about. Homework will be set on a Tuesday to then be completed by the following Tuesday to go through as a class. Spellings will be tested on a Tuesday and the children will be coming home with practise books in order to assist them with their learning.
Reading will continue in school and again, assisting at home will have a huge impact on their understanding. We will also be focusing on times table understanding so practising tables daily would also be a great help.
Our PPA teachers for this term will be Miss Freeman and Mrs Conday.
Please let us know via the home school diary if you have any problems or pop in and see us.
Mr Harden and Miss Willis
